The Expressive Arts and Play Therapy Studio, located in Portland, Maine, offers children, adults and families an opportunity to find fresh perspectives and solutions to long-term problem or sticky situations.
Play is the language of children, so they become easily engaged with sand tray play, costume drama, art materials, percussion instruments and the other expressive play possibilities. Often one of the goals for children is to bring their feelings to words and other effective coping strategies.
Adults can find that words fail, thoughts go in circles, and we feel
stuck. Rediscovering our playful creative selves is empowering and
enlightening, resulting in self awareness, new coping skills, improved
relationships and communication.
Expressive Arts and Play Therapy are not “recipes” or “techniques“,
but individualized experiences that come from ancient healing
techniques and are supported by current brain research.
I received my Master’s degree in Expressive Therapy from Lesley College in 1991. For the next fourteen years I gained experience in urban and rural mental health clinic in Maine, along with a small but growing private practice. I then decided to expand my private practice and create a unique setting for children as young as three and comfortable for adults and family groups.
I enjoy the variety in my practice, which enables me to see the child in the adult and the adult-to-be in the child. No two sessions are alike. The learning is continual. That’s why it’s called a practice.
